Preventive and corrective maintenance
The outage that never happens shows up in no report. We prevent it anyway.
The problem
Systems do not fail overnight: a tablespace growing unchecked, a log file filling the disk, an expiring certificate, a security patch nobody applied. Each one leaves signs weeks ahead. Without someone reviewing them, the first notice comes from the user who cannot invoice.
How we work
- 1
Baseline
Full health check of database, application server and operating system. We record what "normal" looks like to detect deviations.
- 2
Monitoring
Alerts on space, backups, failed jobs, alert-log errors, blocked sessions, certificate and password expiry.
- 3
Preventive routines
Weekly or monthly reviews by criticality: statistics, purges, log rotation, patches, restore tests.
- 4
Corrective with a log
When something fails we respond by severity, document the root cause and adjust the preventive routine so it does not recur.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the support retainer?
Preventive maintenance is a recurring service with defined routines. The retainer is an hour bank for whatever you need. They are often combined: maintenance for routine, retainer for projects and changes.
Can you integrate with our current monitoring?
Yes. We work with what you already have (Zabbix, Nagios, Enterprise Manager, PRTG) and only add what is missing.
How often do you review?
By criticality: billing or production systems weekly; development or reporting environments monthly. We agree it in the plan.
Does it include Oracle security patches?
Yes, within planned maintenance windows and with a prior backup. Quarterly Critical Patch Updates are evaluated and scheduled.
