Migrations

Change version, server or cloud without the business noticing.

The problem

The hardware reached end of life, the Oracle version went out of support, or leadership decided to move to the cloud. A poorly planned migration means a weekend cutover that spills into Monday, inconsistent data or worse performance than before. The difference is the plan, the rehearsals and the rollback.

How we work

  1. 1

    Assessment

Inventory of databases, applications, integrations and dependencies. We pick the method (Data Pump, RMAN, Data Guard, GoldenGate, ZDM) by size, available window and source/target platform.

  2. 2

    Plan and rehearsal

Full test migration with real timing, functional validation with key users and performance comparison.

  3. 3

    Cutover

Execution in the agreed window with a step-by-step checklist, go/no-go decision points and a tested rollback.

  4. 4

    Stabilization

Post-migration support: tuning, intensive monitoring and formal sign-off once operations confirm.

Frequently asked questions

How much downtime does a migration need?

From a few hours with Data Pump on small databases to minutes with Data Guard or GoldenGate on large ones. The method is chosen around the window your business can tolerate.

Can you migrate from AIX to Linux?

Yes. It is an endianness change that requires Data Pump, Transportable Tablespaces with RMAN conversion or GoldenGate. We have done it in production.

What if something goes wrong during cutover?

Every plan has go/no-go points and a rehearsed rollback. If a criterion is not met, we revert to the original environment and the business keeps running as before.

Do we have to go to the cloud?

No. We also migrate between on-premise servers or to other clouds. We recommend OCI when cost and compatibility justify it, not by default.
